You can apply for a provisional driving licence when you’re 16 years and 9 months old and you can start driving when you’re 17 years of age. 

 

You will need to complete the D1 application form that is available from the DVLA or Post Office branches. You will also need to enclose original documentation confirming your identity, a passport style colour photograph and the fee of £50.00. Send your completed application and payment to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AD.

You will need to have your drivers licence and method of payment. Please be aware that you will need to take BOTH parts of YOUR licence with you when going to take your test. If the licence is not correct or incomplete you will not be allowed to take the test and you will lose your fee. If you have replaced a lost licence check that the issue numbers match on both parts. The cost is currently £23.00. 

 

 

There are lots of resources available on-line to help you pass your theory test. To list them all would be impractical, so here are some suggested materials to use. 

 

1. A proper highway code! Apps for phones are great, but a book never runs out of charge and at around £2.50 to £4.00 can be cheaper too! 

 

2. A CD-ROM called ‘Driving test Success All Tests’ Hazard Perception And Theory’ Please ensure that you purchase the correct disc that is compatible with your computer whether it be Windows or MAC. 

 

3. Online practice tests: eg. online Mock Theory Test and the hazard perception test

After the test further training is available.
